Whitby considers new campervan and motorhome parking restrictions

Whitby

New restrictions could be introduced in parts of Whitby to limit where campervans can park up from next year.

At a meeting last week, Whitby Town Councillors expressed concern over the increasing number of leisure vehicles parking up in the town over the summer months.

County Councillor, Phil Trumper explained that he’s been talking to the county’s transport team about the issues, he says while introducing restrictions in the sea wall area will be looked at other areas could be more problematic.

He said: “It’s a very difficult situation.

“As long as they pay their road tax and there’s no restrictions in those areas, they’re legally allowed to park.

“I know the issue with the sea wall, again there’s no parking restrictions down there, but I have spoken to Highways Officers and they are going to look at incorporating some traffic restrictions along the sea wall, which will hopefully resolve that part of the town.

“In regard to other areas where they are allowed legally to park, it’s very difficult to prevent them.”
