Car towing stolen caravan abandoned on M62 near Bradford

A car towing a stolen caravan was dumped before the people inside ran on a motorway.

The car and caravan was abandoned on the entry slip-road to the eastbound carriageway of the M62 at junction 26 (Chain Bar/M606) on Wednesday 7 February.

The occupants of the car were said to be “running on the motorway network”.

Police closed part of the eastbound carriageway of the M62 briefly, as a result.

A spokesperson for National Highways: Yorkshire said last night: “Some restrictions remain on the entry slip road, but traffic can pass.”

Police recovered the car and caravan from the slip-road.

It was later confirmed that the caravan had been stolen from outside the West Yorkshire Police area.

Officers are continuing to investigate the matter.

A full statement from West Yorkshire Police said: “At 9:01pm last night (Wednesday, 7 February) it was reported that a car towing a caravan has failed to stop for police.

“A short time later it was further reported that the vehicles had been abandoned on the entry slip road to the M62 eastbound at junction 26 and that the occupants were running on the motorway network.

“A brief closure was put in place on the M62.

“Both the car and caravan have been recovered, with it later being confirmed that the caravan had been stolen from outside the West Yorkshire Police area.

“Enquiries are ongoing.”
