CAMC cyber attack not as bad a first feared, club investigation finds

Caravan and Motorhome Club training

The Caravan & Motorhome Club (CAMC) has said its recent cyber attack resulted in “a lesser quantity of data” being accessed than initially suggested.

An investigation into the attack revealed that while some data had been accessed, no phone numbers, credit or debit card details, club passwords or email data had been retrieved.

The results of the investigation revealed that the data that had been accessed was:

  • Caravan Insurance / Caravan Cover: for policies and cover from 2018-2024, with the name and policy number accessed.
  • Red Pennant Emergency Service Assistance: from 2021-2023, with the name, address, policy number, start and end date of the policy, vehicle registration, monthly premium paid for 2023 and the passenger name for transport bookings accessed.

The CAMC has told members that it will “never contact you unprompted to ask for your account details or security information, and we will never ask you to disclose your passwords.”

The CAMC has also been cautioned by the cyber security experts it has been working with to avoid sharing further details about the cyber attack on social media – members have been advised to do the same.

As well as this, the Club has taken advice to enhance its cyber security, as well as reminding members to stay vigilant for suspicious websites, emails, texts or social media posts.

Nick Lomas, the Director General of the CAMC, said: “I would like to offer my sincere apologies for any inconvenience this has caused and thank you for your support and patience while we brought Club systems back online.”
