A Kent campsite has been recognised as “the UK’s best” for a winter getaway, according to new research.
The Canterbury Camping and Caravanning Club in Bekesbourne Lane has been ranked the country’s number-one touring holiday location during the colder months.
The researchers said the site prevailed because of its proximity to the centre of Kent’s cathedral city, which contains 267 winter attractions according to Tripadvisor.
It also states that the area’s mild weather and affordable prices helped the club gain top spot.
A study by buymymotorhome.com compared both Camping and Caravanning Club and Caravan and Motorhome Club sites open in the winter months, ranking 71 sites in total.
Buymymotorhome.com operations director Natalie Drewery said: “Demand for holidaying in the UK has never been higher.
“A motorhome holiday in the winter months is one of the best ways to explore the UK.
“The campsites are a lot more quiet and tranquil – there’s something magical about parking up to views of peaceful fields of frost.
“The team ranked the sites with factors including the number of attractions, so the top spots have plenty of things to do nearby too.
“The Canterbury site is a worthy top choice.
“The combination of warmer South East England weather, high visitor reviews, and plenty to explore in the nearby UNESCO World Heritage city centre, makes Canterbury a fantastic place to take your motorhome this winter.”
Cherry Hinton campsite near Cambridge was ranked second by the experts, who pointed to the area’s 400 attractions and low rainfall.
Brighton Caravan and Motorhome Club came third due to its proximity to the seaside resort’s centre.
