Scotland has always been one of the better areas to catch a rare glimpse of the Northern Lights in the UK.
With the Met Office predicting a better than average chance of seeing this spectacular light show this weekend, the Caravan and Motorhome Club has picked some of its top Scottish campsites to catch the best sightings of the aurora borealis.
Situated in the heart of the Highlands in the Cairngorm National Park, Grantown-on-Spey should offer an excellent chance to catch the Northern Lights at their best.
In addition to dark skies, the location offers a range of walks for all abilities – from gentle woodland trails to rugged scree scrambles of the more challenging variety.

This campsite, situated in Stirling, offers a 180 degree panoramic view of Ochil Hills, in the perfect location where the Lowlands end and the Highlands begin.
Visitors this weekend may not only be treated to the Northern Lights, they may also catch the end of autumn colours of the purple heather and golden bracken.

Although within easy reach of the shops and museums of Glasgow, this campsite should offer a sufficiently rural location to view the Northern Lights.
During the day, there are plenty of activities to be had with the country park being a pleasant ten minute walk from the campsite.
Here there is over 1,000 acres of mature woodlands, wetlands, wildlife refuges and open parkland, set around Strathclyde Loch.
The park offers unique bird and nature watching, miles of walking and cycle routes, as well as a whole range of water sports and golf.

The Melrose Gibson Park Club Campsite is located on the edge of the charming small town of Melrose, with its historic buildings, shops and restaurants.
There are 1,500 miles of footpaths to explore along the banks of the Tweed or by hiking up into the High Country to view the Borders’ picturesque, rural patchwork.
The campsite also offers easy access to excellent cycle routes as well as fishing in the River Tweed.
