XBUS Camper: Could this be the electric VW camper we’ve been wanting for?

If you’re after an electric campervan with a nod to the iconic Volkswagen campervan, the electric XBUS camper could be exactly the thing you’ve been waiting for.

Set to be built by electric vehicle manufacturer Electric Brands, some are saying the electric campervan is everything the Volkswagen ID. BUZZ should have been.

The XBUS camper, which will also be available as an off-road bus and cargo van, is based on a 3.65-metre long platform with customers able to choose from two chassis designs; off-road and city.

It is of course the camper version, with its pop-top roof, bed, fridge, television and kitchen, that arguably has the most appeal.

Power comes from a choice of two lithium-ion battery backs; an entry-level 10kWh and a more practical 30kWh pack.

Electric Brands claims the XBUS campervan has a dry weight (excluding battery pack) of between 450 and 600kg.

In terms of range, with the larger battery and optional solar roof panels, it could potentially go nearly 500 miles between charges, thanks to its compact frame and ultra-lightweight construction.

The motor generates a modest 20bhp and drives all four wheels.

With the current supply chain issues seen around the world at the moment, you’re going to have to be patient though.

In a statement, Electric Brands said: “The new XBUS light electric vehicle will be launched into the market with a slight delay.

“The automotive industry is currently facing major challenges, and so does Electric Brands.

“Global supply chains are not functioning properly due to the Corona pandemic.

“Among other things, labour shortages, supply bottlenecks and production capacities are causing delays in almost all sectors.”
