The Volkswagen ID. Buzz Cargo has been crowned ‘Electric Van of the Year’ at the 2023 Auto Express New Car Awards.
Recognising everyday excellence in the automotive industry, the Auto Express New Car Awards judge the latest vehicles according to their comfort and performance, technology, handling and drivetrain.
Continuing its award-winning streak, the ID. Buzz Cargo was praised by Auto Express’ experienced panel of editors for its style, car-like dynamics and one-tonne payload.
Dean Gibson, senior test editor and CV reviews at Auto Express, said: “The arrival of the Volkswagen ID. Buzz Cargo has injected some much-needed style into the electric van class.
“Here’s a work vehicle that, with its striking Type 2-inspired looks, turns heads wherever it goes, which could be ideal if you want your company to stand out from the crowd.”

Under the skin, it uses the same platform and running gear as VW’s ID.3 and ID.4 EVs, and packs a 77kWh (net capacity) battery.
That means a driving range of 256 miles is easily achievable, making this a long-distance champ in the electric van market.
A cargo capacity of 3.9 cubic metres means the ID. Buzz Cargo doesn’t offer the largest cargo bay for its size, but a one-tonne payload is offered, and the car-like dynamics make up for it.
Commenting on the award, David Hannah, head of direct sales at Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles, said: “We are delighted the ID. Buzz Cargo has been voted ‘Electric Van of the Year’ 2023 by Auto Express, and celebrated for its style and substance.
“Our first all-electric van in the commercial vehicles range, the ID. Buzz Cargo was designed with sustainability in mind, and is proof that a light commercial vehicle can combine business-ready practicality with sustainability and style.”
Available to purchase in Commerce and Commerce Plus trim levels, the ID. Buzz Cargo provides a combined all-electric range of up to 256 miles, with a battery capable of being recharged from 5 to 80 per cent in just 30 minutes.
