Man arrested over stolen caravan tracked down on M5

A man has been arrested after police tracked down a reportedly stolen caravan on the M5.

Avon and Somerset Police were called to reports that a caravan had been stolen in North Petherton at around 2pm on Tuesday (August 29).

All traffic was held on the M5 between Clevedon and Portishead around 40 minutes later as officers dealt with the incident.

The motorway reopened in both directions shortly after 3pm.

Investigating officers are now keen to hear from anyone with information on what happened.

Avon and Somerset Police said: “At approximately 2pm this afternoon (Tuesday 29 August) we received a report of a caravan being stolen in North Petherton.

“Efforts were made to trace the vehicle and a black Hyundai towing a caravan was stopped on the M5 about 40 minutes later, between junctions 20 (Clevedon) and 19 (Portishead).

“A man was arrested and is currently in custody.

“Traffic was held on the M5 for a short while police officers dealt with the incident.

“Anyone with information about the theft is asked to call 101 and quote reference number 5223209263.”
