Electrical fault “most likely” cause of Morrisons motorhome fire

An electrical fault in the engine is thought to have sparked the inferno which destroyed a motorhome and the filling station it was using last month.

The motorhome caught fire while filling up at Morrison in Weymouth on July 30.

A spokesman for Dorset & Wiltshire Fire and rescue Service said: “Due to the extent of the damage to the vehicle, it’s impossible to say with 100 per cent certainty what the cause was.

“However, the most likely cause is an electrical fault in the engine bay of the vehicle.”

The filling station is expected to reopen next week following repairs to the damage caused during the blaze.

Morrisons have said that a team is on the site ‘working around the clock’ to repair the damage.

A spokesman for Morrisons said that they hope to have the site back up and running for their customers after the weekend.

They said: “Our team is working around the clock to open the forecourt for customers as soon as they can.”
