Man sentenced after stealing from motorhome on Ayr car park

A man who raided a motorhome and stole £790 worth of equipment has been handed 130 hours of community service.

Douglas Black, 38, appeared for sentencing at Ayr Sheriff Court late last month where he admitted stealing clothing, spectacles, a bank card, a quantity of cash, bags, toiletries and electrical items from a motorhome parked on Charlotte Street car park in Ayr, Scotland last year.

Procurator Fiscal depute Chris Munro said: “At 4pm Saturday, May 29 the complainer left their campervan unsecured and returned a short time later.

“Police on uniformed patrol were flagged down by the witness owning the campervan and they attended the Blue Triangle.

“Police officers attended and spoke to other residents. Ultimately the accused’s room was searched.

“In total £790 of property was stolen with £466 recovered.”

Defence solicitor John Gillies said “Mr Black could benefit from an order to keep an eye on him.

“The proof will be in the pudding if Mr Black can stay out of trouble.”

Sheriff Shirley Foran told Black, now of Walker Avenue, Troon, he will now placed on a community payback order for 12 months including 130 hours of unpaid work.
