New barrier installed on Llanberis road to prevent overnight parking

A new barrier has been erected to prevent campervans and motorhomes from parking overnight on a lane in a Snowdonia village.

A secluded country lane behind the Royal Victoria Hotel in Llanberis is a popular route among locals and visitors as it leads up to Dolbadarn Castle, which overlooks Llyn Padarn and Llyn Peris.

But in recent years, heaps of rubbish, including human waste, have had to be cleared from the route on a regular basis.

Locals put the mess down to campervans and motorhomes that park on the road overnight.

The land is owned by the Royal Victoria Hotel which has now placed a barrier on the road to prevent access to vehicles.

Cllr Jones said: “There have been longstanding issues with people parking their campervans and setting up tents on the road overnight and leaving heaps of rubbish behind them.

“People have also been fly-tipping on the road and there have been occasions where human waste has been left behind as well.

“Luckily, we have a group of volunteer litter pickers who go around the village but this has been a problem area for some time.

“The route is popular with dogwalkers and people use it to walk to the castle as well.

“Naturally, having rubbish everywhere ruins it for everyone so we’re grateful that the Fic has agreed to put up the barrier.

“Hopefully we’ll see a lot less rubbish on the road as a result.”
