Firefighters free stuck motorhome from multi-storey car park

Emergency services were called to a multi-storey car park in the West Midlands yesterday (July 31) after a motorhome became stuck.

Firefighters and police attended the unusual call-out at Asda’s multi-storey car park at the Cornbow Shopping Centre on The Queensway around noon on Monday.

Firefighters from Haden Cross fire station in Cradley Heath got into the motorhome to weigh it down, allowing the vehicle to be reversed back down the ramp.

Watch commander James Clarke said: “They decided to stop when they heard scraping.

“They were a bit embarrassed.

“To increase the weight in the campervan we loaded in firefighters and police and let the tyres down a bit – then reversed it out.

“It took about ten minutes to get it out.

“The car park didn’t suffer any structural damage – it was just the motorhome.

“They’d been on holiday and wanted to pop into Asda.

“It was an unusual call-out!”

In a Tweet, Halesowen Police said: “Halesowen NHT (Neighbourhood team) have assisted along with our Fire Service colleagues to release a trapped motor home which got lodged on the upper route to Asda Multi storey.

“Please ensure your vehicles meet the height restrictions to avoid any such incident.”
