Everything you need to know about driving a van outlined in new National Highways guidance

National Highways has released a new ‘van driver toolkit‘ outlining essential tips and advice for van drivers and to dispel common myths and uncertainties about driving a van.

With an increase of roadside stops for vans and the average fine per offence in the region of £972, National Highways says it doesn’t take long for van drivers to figure out that vans which don’t comply with the rules, regulations standards and procedures can be a costly experience in fines, let alone additional costs for recovery and repair.

The number of vans on UK roads has risen by 50 per cent in the last decade.

The new Van Driver Toolkit features more than 30 modules to assist van drivers.

Vehicle roadworthiness, fatigue, distraction and overloading among the many important subjects that are tackled.

The free-to-access resource has been produced by the National Highways Commercial Vehicle Incident Prevention Team as part of the Driving for Better Business (DfBB) programme

National Highways, formerly Highways England, hopes the toolkit will help promote best practices to improve driver wellbeing, reduce costs, and ensure safe and legal vehicles on the roads.
