‘GB sticker’ to be replaced under new rules for driving outside UK

Drivers will need a UK sticker instead of a GB sticker on their vehicle and any towed trailers to drive abroad under new rules to be introduced from 28 September, 2021.

Current laws require a GB sticker to be displayed on the rear of a vehicle if the number plate has either a Euro symbol, a national flag of England, Scotland or Wales, or numbers and letters only.

If the number plate includes the GB identifier with the Union Jack, a GB sticker is not needed.

Motorists driving in Spain, Cyprus or Malta, must display a GB sticker no matter what is on the number plate.

Drivers are travelling after 28 September will need to cover or remove the GB sticker and replace it with a UK sticker.

A GB or UK sticker will note be needed to drive in Ireland.
